Olympus has done it again, launching a new generation of head-turning, compact PEN cameras that offer SLR creativity, simple, no-nonsense controls. For people looking to express themselves with state-of-the-art technology in an easy-to-use package, the compact and cute PEN Lite (E-PL3) is ideal. Like the top-of-the-range E-P3, the Lite is packed with some of the very best imaging innovations around. For example, FAST AF, the world’s fastest* autofocus system for interchangeable cameras.

There’s also in-body Image Stabilisation and combinable, one-touch Art Filters for adding creative flair to Full HD movies and stills. And then there’s the new tiltable LCD. Whether you’re a serious photographer or a snap-happy amateur, a 3-inch, tiltable display makes capturing stand-out images in awkward situations as easy as taking a regular shot. The tiltable LCD is just one of the user-friendly features that puts the PEN Lite streets ahead of any other camera of comparable size. The fact that ‘comparable size’ means compact speaks volumes about the E-PL3. For a system camera with interchangeable lenses that delivers SLR quality, it’s remarkably small and chic – with a premium, brushed aluminium finish. Stunning pictures from a cool camera that’s as easy to use as a point-and-shoot? Absolutely. That’s what the Lite’s all about. The Olympus E-PL3 is available from autumn 2011 with pricing to be confirmed.

Thanks to some of the latest high-tech innovations, the PEN Lite takes that user-friendliness to a whole new level. It’s the very first PEN with a tiltable LCD that makes seemingly impossible shots a piece of cake. By pulling out and angling the 3-inch display, you can comfortably frame and capture unusual perspectives, even with the camera at arm’s length. For example, if you need to shoot over the heads of a crowd or focus on an insect by your ankles without bending down.

Olympus announces a whole new line of Olympus PEN camera – the Mini, with a new design and new smaller shutter compartment this is the smallest PEN camera ever. The camera no longer features a built in flash, and instead comes with a compact external flash. The PEN cameras feature a 12 megapixel sensor, world’s fastest Auto Focus, and full HD video recording as well as a new 3 inch touch screen on the back. The Mini will be available in black, white, silver, dark brown, purple and silver rose from early Autumn 2011.

The new PEN Mini is a tiny powerhouse of a system camera with interchangeable lenses. It’s also a beautiful camera that takes even more beautiful images and it couldn’t be any easier to use. The Mini is ideal for anyone who wants a fuss-free camera that fits in as well as at a party as it fits in their pocket. Just like a point-and-shoot, it comes in six colours but the Mini is really an SLR-quality camera hiding behind the simplicity and looks of a genuine compact.

It makes high-class photography and movie-making wonderfully easy. Olympus’ Live Guide gives beginners intuitive control of key parameters like aperture and depth of field, without them needing to know how they work. Six Art Filters add fun creative effects to both Full HD movies or stills and if you don’t know what a setting in the menu is for, a window pops up to tell you. With world’s fastest* autofocus systems, great low light performance plus a superb choice of high-grade Olympus lenses and stylish accessories, it’s tough to see just what the PEN Mini can’t do. Also known as the PEN E-PM1, it’s available from early autumn 2011 with pricing to be confirmed.

Upon its announcement, Olympus was making big noise about its Double-Layered Crystal Shell finish – which, in all honesty, sounded like pure marketing blabber at first. However, the camera does indeed have a nacreous shine that makes it very eye-catching when you see it in person.

Compact cameras have made it easy for all of us to click pictures in every situation, edit them, remove all red eyes and even upload it directly to our favourite networking sites. But most cameras turn out to be incapable of making pictures immune to blur or shake – though they may remove the blur at a digital level. Thankfully the Olympus FE-5030 is capable of removing blur or shake from the picture at both the optical as well as digital level.

The Olympus FE-5030 is a new slim, stylish and simplified compact camera that won’t break the bank. Featuring a 14 megapixel sensor, 5x 26-130mm zoom lens, and a 2.7 inch LCD screen. AF tracking keeps moving subjects in focus, while i-Auto mode automatically identifies five commonly-encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly. Advanced Face Detection Technology and the artistic Magic Filters are also on hand.

Thanks to Intelligent Auto, the FE series cameras automatically identify the scene you are capturing (Portrait, Landscape, Night + Portrait, Macro, Sports) and automatically adjust the camera’s settings to capture the best quality results.

Olympus FE-5010 12 Megapixel Digital Camera With Bill & 2 Years Mfg Warranty Loads of technology. Loads of smiles. Don’t let its size fool you. Olympus has packed tons of advanced features into the easy-to-use FE-5010. It has everything you need to take razor-sharp photos, from Dual Image Stabilization technology to Smile Shot. 5x OPTICAL ZOOM. Get 60 percent closer to the action than 3x with this ultra-compact, precision-crafted Olympus lens. DUAL IMAGE STABILIZATION. Forget about blurry shots with this 2-in-1 anti-blur solution. Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization compensates for camera shake to keep your shots steady while Digital Image Stabilization captures crisp, clear images in any situation. INTELLIGENT AUTO. Intelligent Auto identifies the scene you’re shooting – Portrait, Landscape, Night + Portrait, Macro, or Sport – and adjusts the settings to optimize results. ADVANCED FACE DETECTION.

Then there’s iAuto mode, which I’m not a huge fan of because it doesn’t seem as smart as the person holding the camera. In this mode, the camera chooses from one of these scene modes: Portrait, Landscape, Night+Portrait, Sport, or Macro. There aren’t as many presets available as in regular Scene mode, and for me the results weren’t as good. For example, in a brightly lit gym, the FE-5010 in iAuto mode bumped the ISO up to 1,600 and turned on the flash. The images were terrible, in large part because the subjects were out of flash range. I set the camera back to Program mode with an ISO of 800 and the flash turned off and got much better results.
